Modifying
A Domain Name Record
In
order to transfer an existing domain name to us, Network Solutions requires
a different process than that of a new domain registration. In order
to have your domain name record modified to use our Domain Name
Servers and our hosting services in the quickest and easiest way
possible, you will need to follow this procedure, as outlined below.
When
Network Solutions receives a registration form for an existing domain name,
they must verify with the current owners that they do indeed wish
for this modification to take place. To do this, they email both
the current Administrative and Technical Contacts, as listed on
the current Whois record. Either contact may approve (ACK) or deny
(NAK) the modification; Network Solutions will follow the direction of the
email they receive first, provided it is from one of the current
contacts, as listed in the Whois record.
There
are two things which must be done, in order for the modification
to take place:
- You
must have access to the emailbox as listed for the Administrative
Contact, so that you may reply back to Network Solutions with an ACK.
- Notify
the current Technical Contact that you will be modifying the domain
name, so that they will not deny the modification, thinking that
someone is trying to "steal" the domain name from you.
To
find out the current Administrative and Technical Contact information,
look up the current listing for your domain name, on
this page and then return here.
If
you do not have access to the emailbox as listed in the Whois record,
you will need to follow a different
procedure.
When
Network Solutions receives your domain registration template, they will assign
a tracking number to your domain modification. You will receive
email from them (at the Administrative Contact email address) which
will resemble the following:

Send
this message on to Network Solutions, and this will allow them to modify
your domain record to use our Domain Name Servers. You will receive
an autoreponse from them, letting you know that your authorization
has been received by them. This autoresponse is not a notice that
your modification has been approved; it is simply to let you know
that your part in this process has been completed.
Both
you and Colorado Web Hosting will receive another email from Network Solutions
once they have modified your domain name record. Before it actually
points to your hosting space here at Colorado Web Hosting, we must
enter it into our Domain Name Service, and it must propagate around
to other name servers around the Internet. We will email you when
we add your domain to our Domain Name Servers. |
